<font face=arial,helvetica>An Introduction to Music time Schoo Music Time School in Dandenong was first established some 20 years ago, and has since gone on to become one of the largest indpendent music schools in Australia. Tuition: Tuition is available on the following: PIANO - ORGAN - KEYBOARD - GUITAR - VIOLIN - FLUTE - CLARINET - SAXOPHONE - BASS - DRUMS - SINGING Students are tutored in private individual one-on-one lessons from the age of five right up through adult years and have the option of studying for music grades or just for their own enjoyment of playing music. All instrumental lessons include basic music theory with group theory classes available for students studying Grade 2 and above. Fees and Enrollment Lessons are charged at a base rate of $18.40 per each weekly half hour private lesson. Lessons are charged on a ten week term basis. Therefore, at the commencement of each ten week term period, an account for $185.00 etc. will be issued to each student. Term fees must be paid in advance, unless other arrangements with the Principal have been organised. The school has the right to cancel lessons if the term payment has not been received after the fourth week of each new term. A 5% Family Discount of term fees is allowed on 2 or more of the same immediately family taking tuition. At point of enrollment a bond fee of $40.00 is payable. This fee is in addition to the first time fees. $4.00 of this fee is for administration costing, the remaining $35.00 is held in trust and is refundable at termination of lessons provided that 4 weeks notice of termination in writing is given. Payment can be by cash, cheque, EFTPOS or Credit Card. <br><br>Trial Lessons Prior to committing to a 10 week term period, Music Time offers 2 x Trial Lessons at $18.50 each. This will give prospective students and parents the opportunity to evaluate the outcome of the lessons and to see whether the student will enjoy the experience and wish to continue. There is no obligation to continue with lessons after this trial period.<br><br>Missed Lessons<br><br>The Policy of Music Time is that lessons missed are automatically forfeited. The reason behind this policy is that all teachers at Music Time School are employed on a 10 week contract basis and are paid whether the student is in attendance or absent. The only exception to this condition is with the presentation of a Doctor's Certificate within 7 days of the missed lesson, and this lesson will be either credited or made up. In extraordinary circumstances and at total discretion of the Principal (i.e. the absence is understood to be unavoidable or sufficient notification has been given) the missed lesson will be made-up by the teacher only when an available make-up time becomes available.<br><br>School Camps<br>In the event of a student being required to attend an education school camp, excursion or special parent/teacher meeting, this lesson will be made up by the teacher only when an available make-up time becomes available.<br><br>School Holidays<br>Music Time School does not close for Education Department school holidays (except the Christmas break) and lessons missed during these periods will be forfeited unless prior arrangements have been made (Refer Missed Lessons).<br><br>Public Holidays<br>The school does close on Public Holidays, and lessons scheduled on these days will be made up.<br><br>A.M.E.B., A.N.Z.C.A. and A.G.M.S. Examinations<br>Students may be recommended by their teachers to sit for Australian Music Examination Board (A.M.E.B.), Australian and New Zealand Cultural Arts (A.N.Z.C.A.) or Australian Guild of Music and Speech Examinations. These occur twice yearly and are a good stepping stone for students who may wish to be accredited for their musical achievements. The decision to enter students into these examinations is at the discretion of the teacher and a decision is made only after consultation between the teacher, the student and parents. The A.M.E.B., A.N.Z.C.A. and the A.G.M.S. charge an enrollment fee and these are in addition to our term fees. As Music Time is a registered examination centre for the A.M.E.B., A.N.Z.C.A. and the A.G.M.S., all piano, organ and keyboard examinations will more than likely be held at Music Time. Examinations for all other instruments will be held either at Melbourne University, Victorian College of Arts in St. Kilda Road, Yamaha Music in Malvern or the Salvation Army Headquarters in Camberwell. <br><br>Concerts<br>A mini-concert is held every second month at Music Time School. Concerts are not compulsory but are a great opportunity for interested students to perform in an informal setting to parents, family and friends. <br><br>Teaching Times<br>The school's teaching times are between 3:30pm to 9:00pm Monday to Friday and between 8:30am and 2:00pm on Saturday.<br><br><br> Welcome to Music Time School<br><br> Hello, and welcome to Music Time School, Dandenong. This is just a brief introduction to your Music School, which may help you to get to know how things happen around the place. We hope your time with us will be rewarding as well as enjoyable. Just remember if you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask someone on reception or your individual teacher. Have fun and enjoy your musical experience with us. <br><br>When you enrol at Music Time School, your are charged a one-off $30.00 enrollment fee (per family). $25.00 of this fee is a bond. The payment of this bond guarantees the same time slot and studio each week. It acts as aholding deposit and is fully refundable once lessons have been terminated with the required 4 weeks minimum notice of cancellation being given. The remaining $5.00 of the enrollment fee covers administration costs. <br><br>Accounts are given to students every ten weeks to cover lessons for the next term of lessons. Payment is always required in advance of each term commencing unless alternative arrangements have been agreed upon. The school does have the right to cancel lessons if term fees have not been received by the fourth week of the term. Should students have difficulty with payments under this policy, they should discuss withe problems with the Principal where alternative arrangements may be made to assist. <br><br>It is the strict policy of Music Time School that all missed lessons with no sufficient prior notification are automatically forfeited. Lessons missed through illness (with presentation of a medical certificate) will be credited or made-up. Lessons missed for School Educational Camps will also be made-up (proof of camp via school newsletter or school lettter will be required). In extraordinary circumstances and at the discretion of the Principal lessons missed for other extenuating circumstances may possibly be made-up again only if sufficient notice has been received.<br><br>Students may be asked by their teacher to purchase music from time to time. This music can be purchased through the school at retail prices. Similarly, the school has a range of music acessories available for purchase. Such items include metronomes, drum sticks, guitar strings, reeds, etc. <br><br>Photocopies may be made for students (copyright laws are very strict so it is always the preferred option that students purchase the music or required book). However, should a copy be made the cost of each copy is 20 cents for a single sided sheet or 30 cents for a double sided sheet. Payment may be made to front reception immediately or else the cost will be placed on the student's account. Music Time School does not clsoe for Education Department. School Holidays except for the Christmas break (approximately 5 weeks). Lessons missed will be forfeited. (Refer Missed Lessons). <br><br>The school does close on Public Holidays and lessons scheduled on these days will be made up.<br><br>Music Time School is a recommended examination centre for the Australian Music Examination Board (A.M.E.B.), the Australian Guild of Music and Speech (A.G.M.S.) and the Australian and New Zealand Cultural Arts (A.N.Z.C.A.). Students may be recommended to sit a music exam with one of these examination bodies. Examinations are certainly not compulsory and the decision to enter into an examination is entirely up to the student in consultation with the teacher and if necessary the parents of the student. Piano and keyboard examinations are generally held at Music Time School with students sitting examinations in other instruments examined externally. <br><br>Mini-concerts are held at Music Time School every second month usually on a Saturday afternoon commencing at 2:30 pm. Again, concerts are not compulsory but are a great opportunity for students to perform in a very informal setting to parents, family and friends. if students would like to play in a concert they need to speak to their teacher who will then register student names with reception.<br><br>Many local areas and municipalities (including Dandenong) run Music and Arts Eistedfords or festivals. These are again a terrific opportunity for students of all ages to experience performing to an audience. Performances in these festivals are judged and critiqued with a performance score given. Prizes are then awarded in each category for high achievements. If students would like dates or more information about these festivals please contact reception. <br><br>A new facility now offered at the school is Music Aural and Musicianship training via computer software. We have a computer terminal set-up and available for students for this purpose. The programs offer students the opportunity to test themselves and to record their individual scores. Aural training is again a necessity for students undertaking practical examinations. But whether a student is taking an examination or not these computer programs are a great deal of fun and a great way to learn this very important aspect of music. Students may book this facility at front reception. A small token fee will need to be charged for each booking to cover the costs of running this program. <br><br>We hope that you enjoy your time with us and remember that learning a musical instrument is like learning a new language, it may seem difficult and unattainable at first but with a little persistance, patience and positive attitude in time you will begin to see the results. <br><br>The History of Music Time School<br><br>The history of Music Time School really dates back to 1975. During this time the music industry in the Dandenong region was thriving with 5 major music retailing outlets in the area. These included Allans Music, Yamaha Music, Haywards Pianos and Organs, Brashs and Dandenong Music. Each of these retail outlets had its own Music School, which was primarily used to assit people to play when they purchased a musical instrument. The largest of these music schools was the Yamaha School, which was controlled from Yamaha Foundation in Melbourne.<br><br>In 1979, Mr. Barry Lee, who was an employee of Yamaha Music and Mr. Geoff Dart, Manager of Allans Music, Dandenong left their respective companies and joined forces to create "The Happy Keyboard" retail outlet in the Keysborough Shopping Centre. A house was purchased to accommodate "The Happy Keyboard" Music School.<br><br>In 1982, "The Happy Keyboard" was expanded with the purchase of Yamaha Music, Dandenong, thus the Happy Keyboard Music School and the Yamaha Music School was now joined to become the one school called "The Happy Keyboard Yamaha Music School". The school was situated in the upper level of the Hub Arcade Dandenong. <br><br>In 1985, Barry Lee decided to go his own way by selling off the retail arm of the business with Geoff Dart keeping ownership of the Music School business. Although Geoff had control of the School, part of the ownership arrangement with Yamaha was that the Foundation still maintained say in the running of the school. At the time this was a tremendous asset to have as the Yamaha name had universal acknowledgement. However, by 1987 the Yamaha Organization and the "Happy Keyboard Music School" parted company. The school now stood on its own and was known as "The Happy Keyboard Dandenong Music School". The school taught all instruments with a curriculum that included modern dance and ballet. In 1988, an expanded new premises was sought and found in the upper floor of 207 Lonsdale Street above the Commonwealth Bank. (The current location of the School). New studios were built which included sound proofing, extra lighting and security and was officially ready for teaching on the 2nd February 1989. In 1992 the school's name was changed to Music Time School, Dandenong and became one of the major music schools in the area. It also became an examination centre for the Australian Music Examination Board. The Australian Guild of Music and Speech and the Australian and New Zealand Cultural Arts Limited. In 1995, Geoff's son Brad (previously working in the music faculty of Wesley College) took over the running of the school with Geoff and his wife Pam retiring to northern New South Wales. This is the operation as it stands today. The school has stood the test of time with no other music houses, retail or education existing in the Dandenong area. The school still employs teachers from its early days and also has a number of past students who have since become teachers with the school.
